Workshops to hone creative skills
CURIOUS creatives can gather at the Al Jasra Craft Center to enhance their artistic abilities.
A crochet workshop is taking place next week.
Crochet, also known as knitting, is the art of wrapping yarn with small needles that have a hooked shape called yarn, which are usually made of wool, silk, or cotton.
It’s a favorite technique among needleworkers because the thread stitches allow you to create beautiful home decor accessories, from tablecloths and bedspreads to doilies and delicate borders.
This versatile technique also produces fashion items such as vests, sweaters, mittens and hats, scarves as well as baby items.
During the workshop, participants will learn a brief overview of crochet types, identify types of crochet hooks and yarns, learn basic crochet stitches, their names and symbols, and how to read different patterns.
A workshop focused on the craft of Smock Stitching will teach participants the tools used and the steps required to achieve a beautiful and attractive product.
They will learn to draw shapes and transfer them to a canvas and how to use stitches, recognize types of fabrics and draw and fold the canvas, among other things. Both workshops are held Sunday through Thursday and will run from 4-6 p.m. daily.
A palm paper making workshop is held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The palm tree has always been an indispensable element in the lives of Bahrainis as a source of food and shelter.
Workshop topics include how paper works from pulp using special frames and learning how to make handmade papers, cards, notebooks and illustrations.
All workshops are organized by the Culture and Antiquities Authority of Bahrain and are open to people aged 14 and over.
