TRACECA and OTIF discuss accession to international conventions on rail transport

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. A meeting took place between the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission (IPC IGC) TRACECA Asset Asavbayev and the Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Organization for the International Transport of Goods (OTIF) Wolfgang Küpper, the press service said. from PS IGC to Trend.

According to the press service, Asavbayev and Küpper discussed issues of international railway transport procedures, legal and technical requirements in the organization of transport, approximation of the laws of countries, adherence to international conventions on railway transport , as well as various aspects of the application of a unified CIM (Convention concerning international carriage by rail)/SMGS (Agreement concerning international carriage of goods by rail) consignment note.

These questions are also widely debated and fall within the competence of the transport, customs and railway organizations of the member countries of TRACECA and OTIF, specifies the press service.

During the meeting, Asavbayev noted that the application of the unified CIM/SMGS consignment note, digitalization and its subsequent implementation on railways are priority issues identified in the strategy and action plan of the TRACECA member countries.

“It is planned to organize a second joint seminar on the use of electronic dispatch, to which representatives of OTIF are invited. In this respect, it is very useful to share best practices with this organisation”, said he declared.

In this sense, TRACECA cooperates actively with the Organization for Cooperation of Railways, the International Union of Railways and the international company CIT Rail.

During the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of transporting goods from China along the Europe-Caucasus-Asia route, as well as increasing the flow of goods on the Baku-Tbilisi railway – Kars.

The Secretary General of OTIF underlined that the organisation’s cooperation with China is developing within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed and said he was ready to share this experience with TRACECA.
