Sunderland chef offers summer holiday activities for children including cooking workshops and a cake-making competition

Chef Matei Baran, of Posh Street Food, Seaburn, has a variety of activities to keep children across the region busy over the next six weeks.
Summer activities include cooking workshops, a Bake a Cake and Bake with the Kids contest, and cooking demonstrations.
Cooking demonstrations will take place every Wednesday from August 3 to 31 in Keel Square, where the chef will educate the public by preparing a series of healthy yet tasty dishes for everyone to try.
Two additional days of cooking workshops will be held at the restaurant every Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., where children can taste their own creations.

Sunderland and South Tyneside tube stations are empty as the railway strike sees the way…
On August 30, children are invited to create a cake, before it enters a contest at the restaurant.
Chef Matei Baran said: “Our aim is to entertain and educate children during the summer holidays, as we also do during school terms. It takes a long time to be away, so our summer activities program allows us to alleviate boredom while providing fun for everyone.
Sharon Appleby, chief executive of Sunderland BID, added: “Many people are choosing to stay home this summer and who can blame them with the fantastic weather we have had.
“Everyone knows that happy and entertained kids mean happy parents – and that’s where our pop-up park comes in, with fun and games and lots of fresh air.”
