Amritsar: The Department of Applied Sciences of the Values Education Cell held a seminar on “Rules of Traffic” at Amritsar Group of Colleges. Arvinderpal Singh, ASI, Amritsar was the main guest. While speaking on the subject, he educated the assembly on the traffic rules and the essential qualities that each student must acquire to become a responsible citizen and above all a good human being. He added that we must follow the traffic rules in the true sense so that we can minimize the alarming number of road accidents. In order to lead a safe and secure life, we need to understand the meaning and significance of various traffic signs and follow the traffic rules. As a responsible citizen of society, we must never drive our vehicles beyond the prescribed speed limit, wear seat belts and helmets, and most importantly, we must not take alcohol before drive our vehicles, because with such negligence we not only kill ourselves, but we also kill ourselves. Organized English Literary Quiz
An inter-university literary quiz in English was organized by HMV College, Jalandhar. Various colleges in the region participated in this competition. Disha Mehra and Simerjit Kaur Shergill from MA English Sem II participated as a team from DAV College, Amritsar. The College took 3rd place in the competition. Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Prof. Pardeep Celly, Head of English Department congratulated the students on their achievement. Dr. Rajesh said quizzes are the interactive platform for students. Today, students do not participate in quizzes to win a prize or become famous overnight, but to gain knowledge, seek opportunities to excel beyond academics, and secure their future. Because the questions are curriculum-based and require critical thinking and in-depth research, students form the habit of innovative learning from an early age.
Seminar on the tax system
In order to sensitize students to the tax system in India, a seminar was organized at the public school Shri Ram Ashram under the patronage of Principal Vinodita Sankhyan. Rohit Mehra (IRS), Additional Commissioner, Income Tax was the resource person. Speaking to students in grades 10 and 12, the scholarly resource person shared her expert perspective on the subject. Explaining the tax structure of direct tax (income tax) and indirect tax (goods and services tax) and the benefits of the GST, he clarified the notions of the students. He compared the tax system of different countries with India and highlighted the various measures that other countries are adopting for the economic stability of their country. Principal Vinodita Sankhyan expressed her gratitude to the resource person for educating the students on India’s tax system.
World Health Day celebrated
Woodstock Sr Sec School celebrated World Health Day with the theme “My Planet, My Health” at its premises. Verbal presentation on World Health Day done in the form of poems, skits and speeches etc. President Dr Satinderjit Nijjar and Principal Dr Ancy addressed the students and emphasized good eating habits which include a balanced diet, drinking water, fruit with every meal and a glass of milk every day . They talked about the importance of sport and exercise and emphasized physical activities such as yoga and meditation for good health.
Organized 3-day vaccination camp
A three-day vaccination camp for the age group of 12 to 18 was held at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar under the able guidance of Head Teacher Balwinder Singh. Kishore Rana, president of the Nishkam Seva organization, gave his full support to make the camp a success. An expert team of doctors and health workers from the civil hospital vaccinated a large number of students in the camp which started on April 5. The camp was solely organized for the health and well-being of the students and the overwhelming support from the parents made it a huge success. Balwinder Singh, interacted with the students and appreciated their decision to get vaccinated.
Kisan mela organized
Amritsar Group of Colleges participated in Kisan Mela organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran, and were awarded as the best presenters for their booth showcasing the latest trends and techniques in organic farming like hydroponics, aeroponics, vermicomposting, herbal products, etc. as well as for their export promotion of organic agricultural products for doing a great job in the field of agriculture by supporting agri-entrepreneurs and their Start-Ups. Ragini Sharma, Director of Finance, AGC was awarded as the best female farmer in the region for her work in promoting organic farming in the region and her contribution to the development of society. Principal Dr. VK Banga said such events will give farmers and rural youth an opportunity to learn about the latest recommendations on crop varieties and production and protection technologies.
Marked world health day
World Health Awareness Day Celebrated on April 7 every year, World Health Day was marked in Senior Study II. The teachers of the science department and the students organized a special assembly. The students of grades 9 and 10 gave a very informative speech on the occasion of World Health Day. He made students aware of the overall health and well-being of people. The theme of World Health Day is Universal Health Coverage. This year, World Health Day will spotlight nurses and midwives to honor their contribution to making the world a healthier place. VIII students designed beautiful posters to educate the public about the different components of health – physical health, mental health, intellectual health, social health and emotional health.
