Seminar on “Independent India and Jammu and Kashmir” begins – Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism

JAMMU, May 8: ICSSR sponsored a two-day national seminar on “Independent India and Jammu and Kashmir” which kicked off today at the Ved Mandir complex here.
The seminar was organized under the aegis of the Center for Comparative Religions and Civilizations, Central University of Jammu and Center for Ladakh and Jammu Kashmir Studies.
The day began with an interaction session by academics on the theme.
The plenary session of the first day was chaired by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu.
Renowned chartered accountant and social worker Anil Goyal co-chaired the session along with various prominent speakers talking about J&K’s contribution to the Indian freedom movement.
Dr. Chahukeshi Jamwal shared historical facts such as the participation of J&K people in the Swadeshi movement of 1905 and the social, political and economic awakening of the locals through groups like Dogra Sadar Sabha.
Dr. Anu Kotwal explained the British conspiracy to control J&K even after the Treaty of Amritsar.
Dr. Sindhu Kapoor has pointed out the neglect of historians in the perspective of the Maharaja’s role in India’s independence.
Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Virender Koundal, Prof. Sanjeev Jain also spoke on this occasion.
The second day of the seminar will commence at Brig Rajendra Singh Auditorium (Main Campus), Central University of Jammu.
