Seminar featuring Digvijaya Singh and Shamsul Islam canceled due to government order
Indore (Madhya Pradesh)
Former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh lashed out at the BJP government and said he always feared there would be disorder whenever there were talks about Cinstitution.
“We were going to discuss how the Constitution of the country can be strengthened. The state government canceled the seminar as the ruling BJP fears that the discussion on the Constitution could lead to unrest in society. There is now a complete threat to free speech in our country,” Singh said.
He was speaking to the media about the ‘Voice of Independent India’ programme, which he was going to discuss with former Delhi University professor and writer Shamsul Islam. The event was hosted by Supreme Court Attorney Ehtesham Hashmi and State Congress Spokesperson Aminul Khan Suri.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Islam targeted the administration and said he would talk about the martyrdom of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. “The memory of these great men has been insulted by the cancellation of the event. I have traveled across the country to speak about the need for religious harmony.
Some people try to drive a wedge between Hindus and Muslims; what Pakistan and China want,” he said, adding, “These people are the agents of Pakistan and China.
I want to read Maulana Hasrat Mohani song about Lord Krishna. I read this in 20 places in Bhopal and there was no problem,” Islam said. Islam also criticized the RSS and the BJP and said, “Why do you want to end the harmony of the nation. Why do you want to divide the nation into Hindus and Muslims. The enemies who act against the nation will openly attack us if we are divided. We must not be trapped in the RSS agenda and must work to unite the nation.
The organizers of the seminar had reserved the Auditorium Jall
A seminar on the Constitution where Professor Shamsul Islam and Digvijaya Singh were to speak could not be held here on Saturday morning because the auditorium was canceled by government order, organizers said.
Textile Development Trust, in a letter to organizers on Friday, said the booking of its Jall auditorium for the “Voice of Independent India” seminar had been canceled due to unavoidable reasons, as per the government order.
Organizer Ehtesham Hashmi and Aminul Suri said they would take the High Court to court against auditorium management, administration and the police over the cancellation.
