Saratoga County Career Center Announces Virtual Workshops – Saratogian
BALLSTON SPA, NY – The Saratoga County Career Center, in conjunction with Greater Capital Area Career Centers, will be hosting a series of free virtual career workshops in August as part of WorkPays! workforce education campaign.
A resume development workshop at 10 a.m. on August 3 will introduce the basics of a powerful and effective cover letter, including formatting, job fit, and the online application process to land an interview. Participants are requested to have a draft of their curriculum vitae for the workshop.
A transferable skills workshop will be held at 11 a.m. on August 2. Transferable skills are qualities that a candidate has already learned that can be used in another job. Participants will learn how to make employers see the connection between their qualities and the skills needed to do the job and present themselves as the solution to an employer’s problem.
An interview preparation workshop is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on August 9, when attendees will learn how to articulate their strengths, what questions to expect, how to broach difficult topics, and ace the interview process.
A goal-setting workshop at 10 a.m. on August 10 will explore how goal setting works, why goals are important, and provide helpful resources to get every participant started achieving their dreams.
A workshop entitled Completing job applications will be held at 11:00 am on August 18th. Statistics show that around 50% of medium-sized companies and almost all large companies use an Applicant Tracking System to screen applicants for job opportunities. Participants will learn how to prepare an online application to gain maximum visibility with hiring managers.
A social media workshop at 1:30 p.m. on August 25 will focus on how one’s social media presence can make or break one’s ability to find a job. Participants will learn how to use social media to their advantage in job hunting and market themselves to land the job or career they’ve always wanted.
The last workshop of the month, Overcoming Barriers, will be offered at 11 a.m. on August 30. Participants can participate in an informal discussion on how to overcome potential barriers to finding a job. Whether it’s transportation needs, child care, previous involvement with the justice system, inexperience, health issues or more, this workshop will provide everyone with resources and strategies to help you achieve their goals.
