News and notes from press conferences after Seahawks’ first shutout loss since 2011

On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks lost for the fifth time in their last seven games, shutting out an opponent for the first time since a game at Pittsburgh in 2011 (during Pete Carroll’s second season). While the defense performed well in every way in its 17-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers, a comeback from Russell Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense did nothing to top that performance. Gerald Everett echoed that sentiment after the game.
Gerald Everett just outside the locker room, do you feel your #Seahawks the offense let down the defense here in Green Bay?
“Me personally. I do it personally.
‘Russ is going to be tough on himself,’ adds Packers defensive front was all over him and often gave him little chance

As Everett predicted, Wilson took responsibility for the offensive failures and defeat.
Russell Wilson said his finger felt good and he was confident to throw the ball. He said the game came down to his two interceptions. “I have to play better. It was on me, those two games. pic.twitter.com/zSmf2WuZNG

Russell Wilson says Kevin King’s interception when he threw the end zone at DK Metcalf after seeing the Packers CB’s back turned is a throw he’s made for many touchdowns in his career. King just turned his head this time. pic.twitter.com/B6nctzyoAm

No matter what Wilson says, the finger injury clearly limited the Seahawks’ play calling abilities, as Carroll indicated after the game.
Carroll says playing with a rifle and pistol throughout the game was meant to reduce the hits on Wilson’s finger. But he says it didn’t change the offense.

When asked if they would continue to use the gun instead of the snaps under center, Pete didn’t really give a straight answer. They said they could have done it if they had to, but they didn’t want to put Russ through that today. A felt gun would do just fine.

Carroll insisted that Wilson had not returned too soon.
Despite Wilson’s return, DK Metcalf had below par numbers on the offensive end. He was passionate about his involvement and the team’s performance after the game.
DK Metcalf said he had a few drops he needed to catch. When asked if the late fight that resulted in his sending off was something that was built with a defender throughout the game, he replied: “Tired of losing.” pic.twitter.com/6RtThmAUrI

Finally, some injury updates from Coach Carroll. The team hopes to be healthier for next week’s game against the injury-riddled Cardinals.
Duane Brown strained his groin, by Pete Carroll. No word on severity but I haven’t seen Brown return. Jamarco Jones replaced him at LT. Ryan Neal was examined for a head injury.
