Last chance to register for site compliance workshops – Wollongong

We have extended the deadline for local construction companies, project supervisors and private certifiers to register to attend a construction site compliance workshop in August.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 10 and will provide guidance to site supervisors for residential home builders, as well as general contractors/earthmoving contractors at subdivision sites.

“We appreciate that the site compliance officers have been rather busy for the past week or so with this wet and wild weather. That is why we have extended the deadline for our next workshop to give them the opportunity to register,” said Councilor Gordon Bradbery AM, Lord Mayor of the City of Wollongong.

“We really want to encourage those who need to manage construction site soils and sediments to join us for the workshop. The workshop aims to ensure that those working in the construction industry are aware of the latest guidelines and expectations. »

Representatives of local construction companies, project supervisors, private certifiers and members of leading building industry bodies can register by calling Leonie Chapman (regulation and enforcement) via the Council’s customer service on 4227 7111 before Monday, July 18, 2022.

The workshop is part of the Council’s ongoing education program aimed at strengthening the obligations of builders, developers and certifiers which it is hoped will reduce instances of runoff and the need for enforcement action by the Council.

“The steady and consistent bouts of rain we have been experiencing in recent times have seen water pollution incidents from construction sites come under greater scrutiny than before,” said Cr Bradbery.

“It’s important that we get it right, because otherwise sediment and disturbed material, whether it’s dirt, earth, sand or mud, can have a serious impact on the local environment and its surroundings. amenities.”
