AirtelTigo Hosts ICT Mentoring Seminar for Girls

A TELECOMMUNICATION company, AirtelTigo organized a mentoring seminar for 80 girls from the Centre, Oti, North West and North East regions of the country.
The seminar is part of the initiative of the Ministry of Communication and Digitization to commemorate the International Day of Girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) this year, in order to offer selected girls the opportunity to acquire knowledge and practical experience in the field of ICT.
Addressing the attendees of the event, Acting CEO of AirtelTigo, Emmanuel Adjei encouraged the young girls to take their studies seriously for a better future and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country through ICT.
He added that the “Girls in ICT Day” was an important initiative to increase the percentage of professional women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Mr. Adjei took the opportunity to reiterate AirtelTigo’s commitment to support educational initiatives in the country.

Girls in ICT Director/Coordinator Veronica Rita Sackitey, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, praised AirtelTigo management for mentoring the girls.
“The motive behind celebrating Girls in ICT Day is to bridge the gap between men and women in technology.
“Globally, it has been observed that young girls are always turning away from science, technology, engineering and mathematics, commonly known as STEM studies, so this initiative is an intervention to address this challenge which the Ministry of Communication and Digitization,” he said.
Technological change
Supply chain manager Evelyn Sam urged the girls to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to constantly grow as the pace of technological change continues to be rapid.
The girls were taken on tour to various departments, where they were hired by AirtelTigo staff and managers to understand how the business works.
