A FREE festival of art, music and workshops is coming to Salford next week

The Crescent in Salford is one of the newest and most up-and-coming areas begins to develop outside the city center. It’s a celebration of successful independents with a brunch destination Procaffeinated has recently opened there and an abundance of quaint local pubs are perched prettily along its streets.
Next Thursday, a free one-day festival will be held on the Crescent to celebrate the Rediscover Salford project is finally coming to an end. The project was city-wide, aiming to highlight and celebrate Salford’s green spaces – inspired by the launch of RHS Bridgewater Gardens in May 2021. From 2020-2022, Rediscover Salford has enlivened the city with new commissions, exhibitions, workshops and events.
Salford Rediscovered will feature music, films, workshops, tours and performances alongside a joyous exhibition that brings together art and experiences gathered over the past two years. WORM will also be on hand to provide loads of great independent street food and there will also be live music that will keep the party going late into the evening.
One of the workshops running throughout the afternoon is with Lowri Evans. In autumn, Lowri sat under the trees in Salford as passers-by stopped and wrote what they wanted to let go on a fallen leaf. It’s summer now. And as the exhibit draws to a close, Lowri will invite guests to come in, look ahead, and write down what they want to blossom. This will take place during the day between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Between 7pm and 8.30pm there will be a series of immersive performances and installations created by the University of Salford’s Multimedia Performance students. From picnics to park benches, the playful and evocative artwork explores central themes of Rediscovering Salford. Another one to check is the Exhibition You Belong Here.
Exhibition curator Claire Corrin offers a tour of You Belong Here, which will showcase archival documents, historic photographs and artwork, as well as works commissioned as part of Rediscovering Salford by artists based in Salford. Jack Brown, Magnificent Cheddar, Hillary Jack and Lizzie King.
Guests will also have the chance to enjoy live music and DJ sets under the marquee and in the New Adephi Atrium, showcasing some of Salford’s fantastic musical talent including DJ and singer from Lovescene, P-Ro Jonesas good as Bee Jazz, Katie Cheung and Lissy Nicholson.
Salford Rediscover is led by the Salford Culture and Place Partnership, University of Salford, Solid Ground, Salford City Council, Salford Museum and Art Gallery and RHS Garden Bridgewater. The event is free and will take place in Salford’s Crescent on Thursday 16th June from 4pm to 10pm.
