By Ruben Morales Iglesias: On Friday, Extension Officer Miguel Huertas held a beekeeping seminar for 30 Orange Walk beekeepers at Orange Walk’s Yo Creek Agric Station.
The Department of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise said the seminar came after the Orange Walk beekeeping community demanded more training following a recent series of workshops held with Mexican experts as part of the Mexico-Belize technical and scientific cooperation program.
At the time, a number of beekeepers were unable to attend. So they asked Huertas to organize one for them. He kindly granted their request, MAFSE said.
Huertas guided the 30 attendees through topics such as bee biology, equipment, hive products and beekeeping as a business.
They also reviewed Belize’s beekeeping history and Belize’s beekeeping status.
